Background
The International Conference on Urban Pests (ICUP) is a non-profit forum for sharing research on urban pests. Established in the early 1990s, ICUP is held every three years at various global locations. Organised by volunteers, each conference is managed by a local committee with support from a steering group. It attracts academics, government officials, pest control experts, and public health professionals. The proceedings are published and accessible on the ICUP website, offering a comprehensive resource of research data and papers.
The Brief
As ICUP grew to become an authoritative source of information on urban pest control globally, it was increasingly clear that their website needed a full upgrade. The new site had not only to provide conference details but also house ICUP’s extensive database of past proceedings and offer easy searchability. ICUP's Executive Committee chose 101 for the redevelopment following a recommendation from an existing 101 client.
ICUP’s original website had become outdated and inadequate for the organisation's growing needs. The platform also lacked the functionality for ICUP's team to make necessary updates and manage content efficiently.
A key requirement for the new website was to host over 1000 scientific papers from previous conferences and make them easily searchable for visitors.
The organisation needed the ability to update their website content themselves. The previous website did not allow for easy content management, making it difficult to keep information current for their audience.

101 created a well-organised, user-friendly website to serve as an online hub for ICUP information, including a past webinar library and the vast database of conference proceedings, dating back to 1993.
The new website features a powerful, searchable database of over 1,000 scientific papers and posters from past conferences. This comprehensive resource allows users to easily search and download publications, with all documents available for free. Despite the complexity of transferring and cross referencing such an extensive database, 101 managed the process smoothly. The database is updated after each conference, with 101 handling the uploads and ensuring everything functions correctly.
The new website's user-friendly Umbraco content management system allows the ICUP team to easily update the site and add information whenever needed.
101 ensured that Google Analytics was fully integrated with the new website. This setup offers valuable insights into visitor behaviour, helping ICUP track engagement and make adjustments where needed.
